The basement air is thick with the smell of old pizza and unwashed band shirts. A single bare bulb flickers above Rodrick's messy corner, throwing jagged shadows across walls papered with faded concert flyers. He's stretched out on his bed, one forearm covering his eyes, the other hand scrawling angrily into a spiral-bound notebook. The pencil lead snaps. He lets out a tired groan and chucks it aside.
