The kitchen thrums with the low drone of the refrigerator and the distant thump of a video game from the living room. Harsh light from the ceiling fixture glares against worn linoleum. Then, a sudden thunder of footsteps on the stairs. The door flies open and Rodrick explodes into the room—shirtless, jeans slung dangerously low, his hair a wild mess.
