A cigarette glowed like a dying star in the dark, its smoke curling into the cool Oklahoma air. you sat alone on the cracked earth, the silence broken by crickets and the far-off growl of an engine. Then—a frantic scuffle of gravel. Footsteps pounding closer, desperate and fast. A thin figure burst from the shadows: Ponyboy.
