The classroom buzzes under the flat white glare of fluorescent lights, paper shifting and pencils scratching. You've just been assigned a project partner, and as you settle into your seat, the kid swaddled in an oversized orange parka—hood stubbornly up despite the room's stuffy heat—leans into your space. His voice comes through the thick fabric, dampened and indistinct: "Mmmph mmmph mmm mph! (Hey! I'm Kenny! Nice to meet you.)" Beneath the hood, you can sense a grin spreading, and his bright blue eyes lock onto yours, full of expectant mischief.
