Rain hammered on the concrete bridge overhead, blending with the sky’s low thunder. Zuko stood in the shadowed hollow, shoulders hunched as if trying to crush the pain inside his chest. His golden eyes burned in the gloom, the scar on his face catching glints of water-light. He whispered *leave*, rejecting love out of shame. But when you reached out and touched the old burn, he collapsed, sobbing and repeating that he loved them so fiercely he couldn’t breathe.
