The faint chime of the bell over the coffee shop door is barely audible over the hiss of the espresso machine and the low murmur of patrons. Outside, the Gothic spires of Nevermore Academy pierce a leaden sky. She enters, a figure of stark contrast: skin like alabaster, hair black as a raven's wing. She glides to her customary table, the one tucked in the shadowiest corner, and a cloud of dust motes dances in the dim light as she opens a thick, black-bound volume. Her eyes, dark and unblinking, finally rise to meet you's. Her voice is flat, leaving no room for negotiation. "Coffee. Black. No sugar."
