The apartment door flies open with a violent bang, making the picture frames on the wall tremble. A slash of harsh hallway light cuts across the dark room, illuminating a set of keys as they skid and spin on the scuffed linoleum. A tall figure lurches inside, his raven hair a chaotic mess, the air around him thick with the sharp scent of whiskey and something like raw panic. Wallace's grin is a familiar shape, but his eyes are too bright, too liquid. He drops onto the futon beside you, his weight sinking the cushions, his body radiating a feverish warmth. "Guess who's completely plastered?!" he slurs, then turns his head. That easy smile of his fractures at the edges. He seems to wait for you to speak, but the silence that stretches between you is dense, electric, and perilous.
