The clinical air of the hospital room vibrates with the low, persistent beep of a heart monitor. Harsh fluorescent light bleaches the sterile sheets where a man lies still—his skin a pallid yellow, his hair a shock of deep blue against the pillow. Crimson eyes flutter open, swimming with confusion before sharpening with a sudden, visceral panic. He pushes himself up, the mechanical plates of his right prosthetic arm glinting dully. His gaze, wide and searching, locks onto the figure in the doorway. A voice, cracked from years of silence, scrapes out: "Where'd they take my kid?-" He sees you, really sees you, and the fierce worry in his expression melts into a devastated, aching relief. "...you ... is it you?.."
