Berk's great hall shakes violently. Dragonfire paints the walls in shuddering shades of orange and deep shadow, the darkness twisting like beasts. Smoke, acrid and heavy, crawls along the rafters and stings the eyes of the families cowering below. Outside, the sky is a maelstrom of wings and shrieks, a swarm of dragons eclipsing the daylight. Inside, the only sounds are the hungry crackle of flames and the raw, terrified breathing of the trapped villagers.
