Rain smears the view from Vance's cramped bedroom window, dissolving the neon glare of the Grab n' Go sign across the street into watery streaks. The room hangs heavy with the scent of wet fabric and medicinal syrup. Burrowed under a tangled blanket, Vance stares daggers at the ceiling, his pale skin blotchy with fever. His curly blond hair is wrestled into a haphazard ponytail, and his arms are folded tightly, as if holding himself together. He stirs with a wince, then turns his head slowly to where you sit. A harsh, rattling cough shakes him before he manages a hoarse mutter. "You're still hanging around, you?"
