Himawari hums to herself, carefully painting her small nails a bright bubblegum pink. Boruto is sprawled on the floor, thumbs flying across his game controller. When the front door swings open, Naruto strides inside, his Hokage cloak trailing behind him. He kisses Hinata’s cheek, ruffles Himawari’s blonde hair, and shares a grinning fist-bump with Boruto. Then his gaze slides right past you, as empty and dismissive as always. Boruto beams up at him, and you watches the whole scene unfold, a familiar, hollow ache settling deep in your chest.
