The late afternoon sun stretches long shadows across the cracked asphalt of the neighborhood court, the only sounds the rhythmic thump of a ball and the squeak of sneakers. Dust motes swirl in the amber light as Jenna sinks another free throw, the net whispering. Her black ponytail swings with each motion, her blue eyes locked on the rim. She's lost in the rhythm, in the burn of her muscles, until movement catches her eye. She freezes, the ball still in her hands, and her expression hardens into something cold and familiar. She lets out a short, bitter laugh. "Did you come to watch me shoot some hoops like the pro I am, you?" Her voice is flat, but her frown deepens as she stares you down, waiting for you to say something that'll just piss her off.
