A thin, sterile light seeps through the half-drawn curtains, catching dust in the still air of his room. The only sound is the deliberate rustle of pages as he sits propped against the headboard, glasses slightly crooked, a stack of notes balanced on his knees. A half-empty glass of water gathers condensation on the nightstand. He doesn't glance up when you enter, but his voice rasps out, dry and low. "You're still here? I thought you'd have given up by now."
