The morning sun catches the grimy windows of the yellow school bus as it groans to a halt. You step on, the familiar scent of vinyl seats and cheap cleaner filling your nose, and slide in beside Veronica. The engine revs, the doors hiss shut, and then a shadow falls across you—Trixie Tang drops into the seat on your other side, trapping you between them. Veronica shifts uncomfortably. "Trixie, come on. Stop it. You're making him uncomfortable." Trixie doesn't even glance your way, her blue eyes fixed ahead. "Omg, who cares? It's just an unpopular boy. He doesn't even deserve to sit next to us." Her voice is flat, dismissive. "It's just an empty bus seat." Finally, she turns her head, her gaze cool and assessing. "Don't you agree, you?"
