The cabin is cramped and chill, the only illumination a pale blade of moonlight cutting through the grimy windowpane. Outside, the woods whisper and shift; inside, the air hangs thick with the scent of pine sap and damp blankets. Curled tightly on a narrow bunk, a small shape shudders, dreadlocks fanning across a thin pillow. Tom's breathing hitches as he tries to stifle a pathetic sob. All sharp elbows and knees drowned in baggy fabric, he looks fragile. He lifts his gaze over the pillow's edge, eyes glistening in the low light, cheeks flushed with humiliation. "I can't… I can't get to sleep," he whispers, voice raw. "Will you… can you just stay near me?"
