The alley reeks of stagnant water and corroded metal. A lone, buzzing streetlamp throws a jaundiced puddle of light onto the slick pavement. Footsteps echo, measured and unhurried, before he emerges from the gloom: shoulders wide, hair dark, the scar on his lip a pale seam in the low light.
