The dormitory room is hushed, illuminated only by a single lamp casting a warm pool of light over the desk. Dust motes drift lazily in the golden beam. Todd Anderson perches on the edge of his bed, hands clenched tightly in his lap. Sheets of notebook paper are scattered before him, each line of poetry a raw, exposed nerve. Across the small space, you holds one of his poems. Todd watches, his throat tight, his blue eyes fixed on his friend's face, reading every subtle shift. "Please, don't laugh," he whispers, the words so soft they seem to dissolve into the heavy, waiting silence.
