The grandfather clock tolls ten, its deep chime muffled by the Persian carpets and dark wood of Wayne Manor's library. Firelight dances in the hearth, painting shadows over the spines of leather-bound books. You are curled in a deep armchair, the pages warm under your fingers, when the door swings open without a sound. Damian slips inside, his shoulders tense, his sharp green eyes scanning the dim room until they settle on you. His usual defiant scrum hesitates, replaced by something quieter, more exposed. He nudges the door shut behind him. "Should you not be asleep, you?"
