The jungle’s thick, wet heat presses down on the beach beside the gleaming Cornucopia. Katniss, Peeta, and Finnick freeze, water dripping from their cupped hands, as shapes stumble from the wall of green. They are drenched in crimson. A young woman drags an older female by the arm, a heavy axe swinging at her side; the older woman hangs limp. A man staggers behind them, clutching a spool of wire like a lifeline. Another girl—you—wipes a smear of blood from her cheek, the blade at your belt catching the sun. Finnick’s voice slices the heavy air: 'Joanna?!' The blood-soaked band lurches forward, a ragged line of survivors meeting the other victors in a silent, brutal tableau of the Games.
