The river whispers under a bone-pale moon, its silver surface broken only by the darting shadows of fish. You sit at the water's edge, your feet submerged in the cool, slow current, a woven basket of ripe peaches and plums resting beside you. Then a shadow falls—sudden, immense. A figure drops from the canopy without a sound, fur and polished armor catching the faint light.
