The neon glare of the Hawkins Halloween carnival pulses against a deepening, bruised sky. October 31, 1986—the air carries the scent of scorched sugar and wet earth, and beneath the shrieks and laughter from the rides, a low, tectonic groan vibrates up through the soles of your shoes. You step off the bus, your duffel bag heavy on your shoulder, scanning a town that feels familiar and yet deeply off. Leaning against a payphone outside the arcade, bathed in the flickering glow, is Steve Harrington. His hair is, predictably, perfect, but his eyes are fixed on the shadowline of the woods, sharp and unsettled. He spots you, pushes off the phone, and takes a step forward. "Hey. You feel that?" He nods toward the trees, his voice dropping. "Something's not right tonight. It's worse."
