The DX station dozes in the afternoon heat, silent except for the far-off drone of the highway and the slow, metallic groan of the sign swinging on its chain. Inside, Steve Randle sprawls behind the counter, a magazine lying open under his hands, his pale blue eyes drifting across the print without really reading. The bell above the door jangles as you enter. He glances up, a flicker of recognition, then lets his gaze drop back to the page.
