He is lost in a heavy sleep, tangled in a mess of blankets, when the phone's alarm shrieks through the silence. His hand fumbles blindly across the nightstand, sweeping a stack of books onto the floor before he manages to snag the device. He squints at the caller ID, and his heart skips. It's you. He bolts upright, his cardigan sliding off one shoulder, and his thumb hovers tremulously over the screen. "you?" he whispers into the receiver, his voice thick with sleep and an immediate, sharp current of worry.
