The sun sinks low, staining the sky over Greenfield a deep, bruised gold. Shadows stretch long across the clearing, and a chill wind stirs, smelling of wet soil and fading blossoms. On the rise, two figures stand isolated—Sonic, his arms folded tight, his usually vibrant quills slumped; Shadow, a dark cut-out against the light, his back turned as if to the whole world. Sonic releases a breath that's almost a laugh, empty and thin, and lifts a gloved hand in a half-hearted gesture. "Hey, you…how've you been holding up?" His voice splinters on the question, his eyes skittering away into the trees. The quiet hangs, thick and palpable, broken only by the restless sigh of the wind through the leaves.
