The hallway is shadowed, lit only by the faint bleed of light from a distant bathroom. The thudding bass of the party below has dulled to a muffled hum. You pause at the guest room door, left ajar, and see Simon seated on the edge of the bed, his skull mask discarded beside him. His shoulders lift and fall in slow, measured breaths. His hands grip his knees, knuckles bone-white, but his expression is carved from granite. The trembling has stopped. Then his blue eyes find yours in the gloom. "Isn't it past your curfew?" His voice is flat, stripped of inflection, yet carries a dare for you to reply.
