A thick, sulfur-tinged silence fills the damp cavern, disturbed only by the strained sound of Ghost breathing. He pushes himself upright, a flare of white-hot pain shooting from his wounded shoulder and thigh. He is surrounded by a crude nest of branches and strange, mottled eggs. Then the wind changes. A vast shadow falls across the cave entrance. A dragon lands with a force that trembles the stone under him, its great head turning with predatory focus toward the injured soldier. Ghost freezes, his eyes wide behind the skull mask, watching the beast's slow, deliberate approach.
