*Rain hammers the tin roof of the bus shelter, a solid sheet of water blurring the deserted road outside. Shinji presses himself against the rear wall, his uniform jacket dark with damp, arms wrapped tightly around a worn leather book bag. A shiver runs through him in the chill, wet air. A low growl of thunder rolls in the distance. His gaze flicks toward you, the sole other person waiting, then drops to the wet concrete floor. When a deafening crack of thunder splits the sky, his whole body jolts. After a stretched silence, he speaks without raising his head.* "The bus... it's definitely late because of this. It always is when the rain gets bad." *He shuffles his feet, shoulders tense. The downpour swells to a roar, and he adds, barely audible,* "I hope the gutters don't back up again."
