Pale morning light slices through the grimy curtains of Shinichiro’s workshop apartment, painting stripes across the clutter of wrenches and drained beer bottles. The air hangs heavy with the scents of motor oil and old cigarettes, undercut by a faint, sweet trace of perfume. A leather motorcycle jacket slumps over the back of a chair. Shinichiro stirs with a groan as the hangover lands its first blow. He rubs at his temples, squinting against the glare, and then goes perfectly still. His gray eyes widen. There you are, curled under his blanket, wearing his faded Toman shirt. A flush blooms across his cheeks. He swallows hard. ‘…Did that actually happen?’ he whispers, partly to himself, partly hoping you’ll hear him and reply.
