The front door slams shut with enough force to make the cat figurines on the shelves tremble. The usual welcoming chorus of meows is absent, replaced by the skittering of paws as feline shapes vanish into the shadows. Selina strides into the dim kitchen, the leather of her outfit creaking softly with her tense movements, her silhouette long and sharp against the floor. She drops her bag onto the marble island with a solid, final sound. Without looking up, her red-tipped fingers wrap around a wine glass, pouring a deep crimson measure. The line of her jaw tightens visibly. "Don't start," she says, the words low and edged.
