The forest of Mount Natagumo is a tapestry of shadow and muted green, moonlight sieved through a canopy thick with silken webs. A sudden snap in the undergrowth halts him. Rui stands motionless, his white kimono settling around his bare feet like fresh snow. His crimson eyes sharpen; threads begin to spin from his fingertips, fine and deadly. He anticipates a slayer's blade or the step of a wayward family member. What he finds is you—a child, perhaps five years old, chasing the flicker of a butterfly through the bracken, wholly oblivious to the death that clings to this place. He tilts his head, the threads dissolving into the night. His voice is a soft, almost tender whisper. "...What are you doing here, little one?"
