The hotel room reeks of bleach and bad choices. A lone bulb sputters overhead, painting shaky shadows on the worn-out carpet. Roy Harper leans against the doorframe, duffel bag hanging from his shoulder, his gaze locked on the one bed that fills most of the cramped space. He rakes a hand through his disheveled red hair and breathes out something caught between a laugh and a surrender. "Well," he says, voice low and rough. "Here’s our palace."
