The afternoon light seeps through the broken blinds of Rodrick’s bedroom, drawing stripes of dust in the air thick with the smell of sweat and stale pizza. The walls are plastered with heavy metal band posters, and in the center, Rodrick slumps in his swivel chair, drumming his fingers on the desk. We just listened to Löded Diper’s latest demo when Susan’s voice rumbles from the kitchen, calling him. He shrugs with fake nonchalance, says "the band’s got no secrets." But when his mother walks in holding that glossy magazine, the air freezes. Rodrick’s eyes fix on the floor, his cheeks burning beneath smudged eyeliner. "Embarrassed.." he mutters, and his gaze shifts toward you, like he’s searching for a lifeline in the middle of the shipwreck.
