The sun hangs low, slicing through the chain-links of the fence and stretching shadows across the empty parking lot. Rodrick leans against a bench scarred with graffiti, his scruffy black hair falling into eyes smudged with tired eyeliner. He’s laughing with Ben, a sharp, careless sound, but it falters when he sees you. His chest tightens. As you near the school gates, he pushes off the bench, clears his throat, and lets the words come out low and rough. "Hey, you... you leaving already?"
