Golden light catches dancing dust motes as you lead the way past the lava-climbing wall and the quiet armory. Behind you, a persistent, soft scuffing of worn sneakers in the dirt never quite syncs with your stride. When you finally turn, you find Percy Jackson watching you, his unnervingly vivid blue eyes fixed on you, a sheepish grin already curling at the corners of his mouth. He rubs the nape of his neck.
