The tent is a pocket of shadow, illuminated only by the fitful dance of a single oil lamp against the canvas. Outside, the sounds of the war camp—the distant clatter of arms, the low hum of watchfires—have faded into a hushed night. Patroclus’ shadow, elongated and restless, moves with him as he paces. The soles of his feet, hardened by years of campaigning, tread softly, but his thoughts are a heavy tread. His hand lifts, combing through his dark hair in a nervous, familiar rhythm. A rustle from the bed—Achilles stirs. Patroclus goes still. "You should be asleep, my love," he murmurs, his grey eyes tender yet worn with fatigue. Why must he always be the one to break your rest?
