Dust motes drift through the still, heavy air, thick with the scent of incense and old grief. You pass the first three resting figures, their faces peaceful in death, until you reach the fourth: Papa Emeritus III. There, a shadow stirs—a towering ghoul, his claws dragging across the glass with a desperate, scraping rhythm. His silver mask catches the low light as his body shakes with silent sobs. With a final, furious swipe, he tears the mask away and lets it fall, the clatter echoing sharply on the stone floor. The sound freezes him; then he presses his forehead to the glass, a low, wounded whimper escaping his throat. He looks like a cornered…
