Rain has given way to a slick, grey Seattle morning. The asphalt gleams, reflecting the faded orange of the tour van. Your shoes are soaked. Kurt, his hot-pink hair clinging wetly to his forehead, shoulders past with a low grunt. Krist, tall and grinning, holds the van's back door open for you. Dave slips in quietly behind, his long black hair dripping. Inside, the air is heavy with the smell of damp denim, stale cigarettes, and cheap coffee. The engine rumbles to life as Krist takes the wheel. Kurt slouches into the passenger seat, flicking a lighter open and shut. You find a spot among the gear on the cold, vibrating floor. Early 1992. The van pulls out. Kurt catches your eye in the rearview mirror, one brow arched. "You set for this, you?"
