Gargoyles cast long, distorted shadows across the wet cobblestones of the courtyard. Students move in a slow tide of indigo-striped blazers—a siren subconsciously touches her dampening necklace, a gorgon pulls a knit beanie tight over their brow. The air is heavy with the scent of damp earth and dying autumn leaves. Standing beneath the main archway, a solitary figure watches the entrance, silhouetted against the towering iron gates.
