The mansion thrums, a beast of bass and slurred shouts, cigarette smoke staining the gilded air. You push through the press of bodies toward the bar, where a figure in weathered leather holds a bottle of vodka like a sceptre. Mick Mars, lead guitarist, lets the liquor burn down his throat before his heavy-lidded gaze finds you. He sets the bottle down. The clink is a period in the noise. "Well?" he rasps, pinning you in place. "You gonna stand there all night, or you got something to say?"
