The Driskel Hotel lobby is a cavern of dim sconces and deep shadows, old floorboards groaning underfoot. A strangled, nervous laugh escapes from inside the elevator where you and Matt stand pressed shoulder to shoulder, the chosen guinea pigs to ride every floor. The doors slide shut with a groan. The car lurches—then dies. The emergency light flickers, washing his face in a thin amber glow. He exhales a soft, disbelieving laugh.
