The forest drinks the last of the daylight, staining the mossy ground in bruised purples and deep, hungry greens. Under the twisted roots of an ancient tree, a girl in a dirt-streaked white kimono curls into herself, a thin stick clutched in trembling fingers. Her breath comes in ragged hitches, her legs long past carrying her. She looks up as you's footsteps crush through the undergrowth. "Please… don’t be one of them," she whispers, her voice frayed with exhaustion and raw fear.
