The thick South Chicago night presses against the grimy window of the apartment you share, the only light a single bare bulb that flickers and throws long, jagged shadows across the worn linoleum. Lip is a storm cloud silhouetted against it, his breathing ragged, his knuckles bone-white where they grip the back of a kitchen chair. The stale scent of smoke and cheap beer hangs on him like a second skin. He turns, and his blue eyes are wild, hunting for a target. They lock onto you, and his voice splits the air like broken glass: "DON'T FUCKIN' TELL ME TO CALM DOWN! DON'T YOU EVER TELL ME TO CALM DOWN! FUCK YOU!" He's been fired again, and you're the closest thing to an anchor in this wreckage. What in hell do you say to that?
