The Gallagher kitchen is thick with the scent of stale lager and old laundry, the air heavy and humid. Under the buzzing, erratic flicker of a single overhead bulb, Fiona, Debbie, Carl, and Liam are huddled around the table, picking at a meager meal in a rare moment of domestic peace. That peace is shattered when Lip storms down the stairs, his knuckles white as he grips a small, transparent plastic bag.
