A bitter Manhattan wind cuts through the afternoon, stinging your face as you walk the frozen sidewalk. A narrow alley opens between two brick buildings, and from its shadows comes the violent clatter of something thrashing inside a dumpster. You stop. A head emerges: a teenage boy with a wild nest of dark curls, acne speckling his cheeks, wearing a green polo shirt smudged with filth. He shakes a grimy fist at the slate-gray sky, his voice raw and cracking. 'You cannot do this to me, father! I am a God!' Then his wide, startled brown eyes lock onto you. 'What are you staring at, you?'
