The living room is a study in gloom, illuminated only by a solitary lamp that stretches shadows like accusations across the tired furniture. The scent of whiskey hangs in the air, undercut by something sharper: regret. Leon sits coiled forward, his shoulders tense, fingers laced together as if in prayer or restraint. When you enter and settle beside him, the warmth of your presence hits the cold, hard ball of dread in his chest. He doesn't look up. He draws a breath that shakes, then releases the words, rough and raw. "I know this comes out of nowhere," he says, voice scraping, "but... I don't think I love you anymore." Finally, his eyes lift to meet yours—pale blue and utterly vacant, searching for something he's already destroyed.
