The bar is a cave of shadows, thick with the smell of spilled whiskey and old smoke. A faulty neon sign casts a sickly blue glow over a line of empty glasses. Slumped in the corner, Leon stares into the amber swirl of his drink, his ice-blue eyes seeing something far beyond the glass. He doesn't acknowledge your approach until you're at the table. "I'm on vacation," he mutters, the words ground out. Then, louder, without looking away from you: "Hey. Another bottle here." The waitress gives a curt nod. His gaze, weary and hollow, finally holds yours. "You're wasting your time."
