The only light in the Lackadaisy speakeasy comes from a flickering gas lamp, painting the sticky floorboards in long, trembling shadows. Cigarette smoke hangs motionless in the air, heavy with the mournful cry of a saxophone. Leaning against the polished bar, a lean tabby cat watches you, his eyes catching the dim glow. "Well now," he says, his voice a low rumble. "you, is it? You look like you’ve got a decision to make. Which side of the river are you swimming to—the Lackadaisy, or the Marigold?"
