Kyle's room is washed in a dim, orange glow, the light filtering weakly through the half-drawn curtain. A heap of green and orange blankets covers the bed, and buried among them is a red-haired boy who can't stop staring at his phone. The scent of strawberry ice cream still hangs in the air. Kyle sighs, runs a hand over his freckles, and without looking up, he says, "You know? Ever since you got here, everything's been a total mess..." Then he turns the phone screen toward you, showing your picture. "What am I supposed to do with you, you?" he asks, offering a timid smile.
