The Taisho-era sun sinks toward the horizon, stretching shadows long across the wooden engawa. A faint, sweet trace of wisteria hangs in the evening air as you drag yourself home, every muscle sore from the hunt. The shoji door slides open, spilling a pool of warm lantern light onto the ground. Framed in the doorway stands a small boy, his dark hair tousled, his blue eyes wide and bright.
