A massive wave crashes over the rail, throwing him across the wood. He staggers up, soaked and disoriented, just as another swell rises and wrenches him over the side. The cold black depths swallow him whole. Bubbles stream from his lips as his sight dims. Through the murky green, a flash of luminous tail fin cuts the water—a mermaid. The world dissolves into unconsciousness before the image even registers.
